The Princess on the left is one I drew when I was four. It's Snow White of course! The Princess on the left is one I did a little more recently! She appears on a page in a book I worked on titled, Once Upon a Cool Motorcyle Dude which won eight state awards!
BIOGRAPHY
I'm currently a full time illustrator and writer. Before beginning my freelance career I worked for a movie production company as production designer and writer of feature films, including Thunder Run, released by Cannon Films, and May Day, a direct to video release.
I have written/illustrated twenty-eight children’s picture books, among them HUMPHREY’S FIRST CHRISTMAS, and ONCE UPON A COOL MOTORCYCLE DUDE, winner of eight state awards.
My art has appeared on everything from book covers to bookmarks, and I've done work for, DISNEY, READER’S DIGEST, WIZARDS OF THE COAST, Ray Bradbury, SCHOLASTIC, PENGUIN/PUTNAM/Henry Winkler, Doreen Virtue, and many others.
My artwork is included in the collections of THE GREISINGER MIDDLE EARTH MUSEUM in Jenins, Switzerland, THE MAZZA MUSEUM, the largest museum of original artwork by children's book illustrators in the world, and all of my TSR, INC. art was purchased by a museum still in development. I have art in the Frank Collection, and shows in the Chemer's Gallery, Storyopolis, Every Picture Tells a Story, Conejo Valley Art Museum, UCLA, and the Janss Gallery among others.
I graduated from CALIFORNIA LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY with Departmental Honors. My biography has been included in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICA, WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD, CONTEMPORARY AUTHORS, etc. I've won awards from Print’s Regional Design Annual, The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Spectrum, The International Competition for Fantastic Art, The Carnegie Art Institute, and The Society of Illustrators LA, etc.

On a personal note, I have two rescue dogs named Cashew Nut and Peanut. So my friends have officially dubbed ny home, The Nut House, which of course includes me! I’ve also been told I’m now one of three Mixed Nuts. I feel right at home with both. I love interior decorating, and collecting Asian, and African, furniture and sculptures.
My father, William J. Heyer, and my mother Merlyn M. Heyer were great influences in my life. I owe the success of my freelance career to the support my parents gave me. This support in turn allowed me to take “the road less traveled, which has made all the difference”, and, the most wonderful thing of all, the opportunity to write and paint the things I love.
